N.Y. Islanders vs. Minnesota Wild Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-28-2023

The New York Islanders face the Minnesota Wild with both teams looking to build off of strong seasons. The Islanders have a 31-25-7 record and are in the middle of the Metropolitan Division. The Wild have a 33-21-6 record and are in second place in the Central Division. Both teams look to continue to improve in their division and the playoff picture and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Islanders are having a great season but hope their offense can improve, scoring only 2.90 goals per game. Brock Nelson, Anders Lee, and Zach Parise have scored 64 goals and 63 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four active skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.70 goals per game with only six goals in the last four games. Ryan Pulock and Scott Mayfield have combined for 6.8 defensive point shares and 229 blocked shots while Adam Pelech, Sebastian Aho, and Alexander Romanov have combined for 8.6 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Ilya Sorokin is having a remarkable year with a .924 save percentage and a 2.41 goals-against average on 1368 shots with 25.5 goals saved above average.
