Bruins vs. Oilers Odds, Picks, Predictions: Can McDavid Lift Edmonton to Upset Over Boston?iv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

The best team in the National Hockey League visits the best player in Monday night action. Here's sports betting analyst Scott Cullen's top NHL pick for the showdown based on the best NHL odds.

On pace for 134 points, the Boston Bruins are challenging the 1976-1977 Montreal Canadiens for the best record in NHL history. Boston has won six straight games overall and five straight on the road.

The Oilers sit in third place in the Pacific Division and they are coming off a 6-5 loss at Columbus on Saturday. Edmonton is 5-2-5 in its past 12 games. The Oilers do have a 5-0-4 record in their past nine home games.

Here is our best Bruins vs. Oilers NHL pick (odds via BetMGM; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Bruins vs. Oilers pick

It is not difficult to find a reason to like a team that is challenging for the best record in NHL history.

Not only are the Bruins on a six-game winning streak, but in 17 road games since Christmas, Boston's only regulation losses have come at Tampa Bay and Carolina. They very rarely get tripped up in games that they should win.

The Oilers have the best power play in the league, scoring 12.62 goals per 60 minutes of five-on-four play, which can be a difference maker against a lot of teams.

Unfortunately for Edmonton, Boston happens to have the best penalty killing unit in the league, allowing 4.90 goals against per 60 minutes of four-on-five play. If the Bruins neutralize th e Oilers power play, can the Oilers win the game at five-on-five? I doubt it.

While the Oilers have the top two scorers in the league, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, they lack the depth to be consistently dominant like the Bruins.

It does not help the Oilers' cause to have winger Evander Kane out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury. The Oilers are 14-7-3 (.646 points percentage) with Kane in the lineup and 18-13-5 (.569 points percentage) when he is out.

Taylor Hall is out of the Boston lineup, but the Bruins have better depth which allows them to more effectively handle his absence.

There is a little variance among our top-rated sportsbooks, but the six-cent difference between BetMGM and PointsBet is enough to influence where to make this wager.

It is worth tracking the goaltending matchup throughout the day. Stuart Skinner is starting for the Oilers and backup Jeremy Swayman could get the nod for Boston. The Bruins play in Calgary on Tuesday, so Swayman will get one of the two Alberta games, but if Linus Ullmark ends up starting the odds will move further in Boston's favor.

Bruins vs. Oilers odds analysis

FanDuel opened with the Bruins favored at -137 , compared to the Oilers at +114.

Although 67% of the consensus moneyline wagers coming in on Boston, there has been a little line movement, with the Bruins now at -126 and the Oilers at +104. That could be in anticipation of Swayman potentially getting the start in goal for Boston.

The total opened at 6.5, with opening odds at -120 for the Over and -102 for the Under. More money is coming on the Over, with 69% of the consensus wagers on that side, moving the price to -122 for the Over and +100 for the Under.
