Stony Brook vs. Charleston Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-25-2023

Stony Brook (10-20 SU, 6-11 SU) travels down south to South Carolina to face Charleston (27-3 SU, 15-2 CAA) on Saturday at 12pmET.

The Seawolves are trying to finish strong, while the Cougars will need help to get the first seed in the CAA Tournament. At 54 in the NCAA Net Rankings, they are still considered a bubble team to make the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first meeting between these teams in the CAA.

Stony Brook has had its moments this season in their first year in the CAA. Most of it came in January when they beat Drexel at home and Northeastern on the road. But since then, they've had some close calls, but injuries and personnel have put them at 6-11 in the CAA. They've lost three straight but have covered three straight including a 76-69 road loss at UNCW on Thursday. Last week, they lost at home to No. 1 Hofstra 68-65 as a 12.5-point underdog. In their loss at UNCW, Stony Brook shot 52% from the field, but 17 turnovers contributed to their downfall. Keenan Fitzmorris led the way with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, but also committed seven turnovers.

Fitzmorris is a 7-0, 235-pound grad student who played briefly at Stanford. He's averaging 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds on 56.3% shooting. Tyler Stephenson-Moore leads the Seawolves with 14.9 points on 40.7% shooting (30.9% 3pt).

Stony Brook's problems this season starts with shooting as they rank 11th in the CAA (41.5%) and 9th in three-point shooting (32.4%). They rank 10th in three-point defense (34.8%) and 9th in three-point shooting (32.4%).  Their biggest issues are taking care of the basketball as they rank 12th out of 13 teams in turnover margin (-3.27).
