The Ole Miss Rebels are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Auburn Tigers Wednesday night. Ole Miss fell short in their last game, losing 69-61 in overtime at home to Mississippi State Saturday, failing to cover as a 3.5-point underdog. Auburn was edged 67-65 by Vanderbilt on the road in their previous game, losing outright as a 2.5-point favorite. In the all-time series between the schools, the Tigers own a 75-60 advantage and have won the last three meetings. That includes an 82-73 road win in the first meeting this season on January 10.

Ole Miss battled back from an early deficit but couldn’t do enough late to pull out a win over their in-state rivals. The Rebels fell to 10-17 overall and stand 13th in the SEC with a 2-13 mark after their eighth loss in the last nine games. Against Mississippi State, Ole Miss trailed 13-4 early before rallying to lead by one at the half. In the second half, neither team led by more than three with the Rebels giving up the tying bucket with 29 seconds remaining to force overtime. The extra session didn’t go in favor of the hosts as they gave up a 7-2 run to open overtime and never got closer than four after that. Ole Miss shot 32.3% from the floor, including three of 22 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 46-32. Jaemyn Brakefield led the Rebels with 20 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
The Rebels are averaging 67.1 points per contest on the year, whic h puts them 297th in the nation in scoring offense. Ole Miss is grabbing 36.3 rebounds per contest and dishes out 12.8 assists per game this season. The Rebels are 143rd in the nation in scoring defense as they give up 68.5 points per contest. Ole Miss is led by Matthew Murrell, who puts up 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Amaree Abram (eight points) and Jaemyn Brakefield (10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds) provide good secondary scoring. Daeshun Ruffin (9.5 points, 3.2 assists), Myles Burns, Robert Allen, TJ Caldwell, Jayveous McKinnis, James White, Josh Mballa, Theo Akwuba, Tye Fagan and Malique Ewin are solid contributes for coach Kermit Davis. Ole Miss shoots 41.8% from the field as a team on the year. The Rebels sink 5.7 threes per game while shooting just 28.8% from downtown. Ole Miss is scuffling at the charity stripe, cashing in 69.2% of their attempts.
