UMass at Rhode Island – 2/18/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The UMass Minutemen will head down to Kingston to take on the Rhode Island Rams in Atlantic 10 play from the Ryan Center on ESPNU. UMass leads the all-time series, 81-46, after winning four of the last five meetings.

Massachusetts dropped to 13-13 after losing to Loyola Chicago at home. The Minutemen trailed the Rams big at the break, and nearly came all the way back before falling by two points, 64-62. UMass is scoring 71.2 points per game, while allowing 72.2 ppg, and shooting 42.1% from the field.

Massachusetts has lost their last five games, but the rivalry matchup with URI may give the team something to play for this weekend. UMass is 4-10 in Atlantic 10 play, with a 2-7 road record. The Minutemen have been without veteran scorer Noah Fernandes for the majority of the season, and it’s hindered them offensively. Junior forward Matt Cross scored 22 points in the first meeting with the Rams last month, and he’s posting team-leads in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (6.3). Junior guard T.J. Weeks has scored 16 points or more in three of the last five games, and he’s up to 9.2 ppg.
