The Santa Clara Broncos will travel to the Chiles Center on Saturday night in a West COast Conference matchup to take on the Portland Pilots. The Broncos are 20-8 (8-5) so far this season and are riding a four-game winning streak after an 81-74 home win on Thursday against the BYU Cougars. The Pilots are 13-15 (5-8) right now and are c oming off an 81-64 home loss to the Saint Mary’s Gaels last Saturday. This is the only regular season matchup for these teams against one another. 

The Santa Clara Broncos have been playing extremely well and were able to pick up an 81-74 road victory against the BYU Cougars. They dominated in the first half as they outscored BYU 45-30. They shot the ball incredibly well as they were 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) overall, 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the three, and 27 free-throw attempts. Sophomore guard Brandin Podziemski led the team as in 37 minutes he finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two turnovers. Defensively, they were able to do well as they held the Cougars to 40.6 percent from the floor, 21.7 percent from three, and 21 trips to the charity stripe. They did well as they forced nine turnovers with five steals and four blocks. 

The Santa Clara Broncos are doing very well this season as they are 88th in the nation with 75.7 points per game thus far and shooting a strong 47.7 percent from the floor and are averaging 13.5 assists per game. Defensively, they are giving up 72.6 points per game, which is 266th in the country. They need to improve with 3.5 blocks and six steals per game thus far.
