The Montreal Canadiens face the Toronto Maple Leafs with both teams on opposite ends of the standings this season. The Canadiens have a 23-28-4 record and are in last place in the Atlantic Division while the Maple Leafs have a 33-14-8 record and are in second place in the division. The Canadiens look to turn around their season ahead of the trade deadline while the Maple Leafs look to remain near the top of the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a good one as result.

The Canadiens are having a season to forget with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.65 goals per game. Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, and Christian Dvorak have scored 38 goals and 62 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only three active skaters have 10 goals or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Canadiens down this season, allowing 3.64 goals per game with six goals in their recent loss. Johnathan Kovacevic and Jordan Harris have combined for 4.0 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Jake Allen has struggled with a .895 save percentage and a 3.42 goals-against average on 1006 shots with -11.3 goals saved above average.
