Pittsburgh Penguins vs. N.Y. Islanders Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-17-2023

The Pittsburgh Penguins face the New York Islanders with both teams looking to build off promising seasons and improve in the playoff race. The Penguins have a 27-17-9 record and are in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division while the Islanders have a 27-23-7 record and with three losses in a row have fallen to sixth in the division. Both teams look to improve within the division and the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Penguins are having a promising season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.23 goals per game. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Jake Guentzel have scored 66 goals and 102 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Jason Zucker, Bryan Rust, and Rickard Rakell have combined for 45 goals and 45 assists while defensemen Kris Letang and Jeff Petry have added eight goals and 30 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.08 goals per game. Marcus Pettersson and Brian Dumoulin have combined for 4.6 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Casey DeSmith who has a .907 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average on 836 shots.
