The Long Beach State Beach are on the road as they travel to face the UC Riverside Highlanders Wednesday night. Long Beach State knocked off Cal State Bakersfield 79-69 on the road, covering the line as a six-point favorite, in their previous contest Saturday. UC Riverside was beaten 83-64 on the road by UC Irvine Saturday in their most recent game, failing to cover the line as a 6.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, the Beach own a 30-13 advantage though it was the Highlanders earning 73-72 road win in the first meeting this season on December 31, 2022.

Long Beach State won for the seventh time in eight games as they took care of business on the road against Cal State Bakersfield Saturday night. The Beach improved to 15-11 overall and stand tied for third in the Big West, 2.5 games behind UC Santa Barbara for the top spot. Against Cal State Bakersfield, Long Beach State used a 17-4 run in the first half to lead by as many as 18 before the Roadrunners cut the margin to 12 at intermission. The Beach led by as many as 17 in the second half only to see the Roadrunners cut the lead to 63-60 with 6:20 to play. Long Beach State regrouped with an 11-2 run to take a 74-62 with 3:02 to play and went on to the win. The Beach shot 50% from the floor, including four of 10 from three-point range, hit 25 of 31 free throw attempts and controlled the glass by a 36-27 margin. Jadon Jones led the way with 18 points and six rebounds in the win.

The Beach is averaging 76.9 points per game this season, which is 55th in the nation when it comes to scoring offense. Long Beach State collects 42.2 boards a night (2nd in the nation) while dishing out 15 assists per contest. The Beach must be better on the defensive end of the floor as they are giving up an average of 73.6 points per contest this season, leaving them 293rd in the country in scoring defense. Joel Murray leads the team with 15.7 points a night this season. Marcus Tsohonis (14.9 points) and Lassina Traore (11.8 points, 10.8 rebounds) are also averaging in double figures this season. Jadon Jones, Aboubacar Traore (10.2 points, 8.8 boards), AJ George, Tone Hunter, Amari Stroud, Chayce Polynice and Tobias Rotegaard each play double-digit minutes a night for coach Dan Monson but they need to be more productive on both ends of the floor. Long Beach State shoots 45.3% from the field as a team. The Beach average 4.3 three-pointers a game while shooting only 28.7% from long range. Long Beach State shoots a dismal 67.4% from the line as a team this season.
