Vanderbilt vs. South Carolina Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-14-2023

Vanderbilt will try to build on its surprising three-game winning streak when it travels to South Carolina on Tuesday night. The Commodores pulled off a stunning upset over then-No. 6 Tennessee last Wednesday before beating Florida on the road on Saturday. South Carolina was able to snap its eight-game losing streak with a 64-61 win at Ole Miss its last time out.

Vanderbilt got off to a nice start in conference play when it beat South Carolina in overtime, but it lost six of its following eight games. The Commodores have been able to turn their season around in February, beating Ole Miss, then-No. 6 Tennessee and Florida. They are now back to the .500 mark in SEC play and do not have a ranked opponent remaining on their schedule. Vanderbilt has moved into a tie for seventh place in the standings, as Arkansas and Florida are both 6-6 as well. The Commodores got a huge performance from big man Liam Robbins on Saturday, scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Robbins, a senior forward, is averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Junior guard Tyrin Lawrence is scoring 11.1 points, while senior guard Jordan Wright is adding 10.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. They are facing a South Carolina defense that KenPom ranks outside the top 300 nationally in field goal percentage, turnover rate and rebounding. Vanderbilt has struggled to consistently shoot the ball well this year, ranked No. 220 in 3-point percentage (33.2) and No. 249 in 2-point percentage (48.4). The Commodores’ strength offensively has been their low turnover rate and solid rebounding numbers.
