Utah went through a strong stretch from the middle of January to the beginning of February, winning five out of seven games. The Jazz have not been able to maintain that success since then, losing four of their last five contests. They dropped three straight games to Atlanta, Dallas and Minnesota before beating Toronto by six points on Friday. Utah was unable to build on that win, losing at New York by six points on Saturday. The Jazz are on a four-game road trip that concludes at Memphis on Wednesday. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference and are a half-game back of the final play-in spot.

Lauri Markkanen led Utah with 29 points to lead the Jazz in their loss at New York on Saturday. Veteran Jordan Clarkson had 24 points, while Talen Horton-Tucker added 23 off the bench. Markkanen has been Utah’s best player this season, averaging 24.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Clarkson has been the other key player on the team, scoring 20.9 points and 4.0 boards. The Jazz have relied on their offense to win games this season, ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring (117.6). They are facing an Indiana defense that is No. 22, allowing 117.1 points per game. Utah acquired Russell Westbrook in a trade with Los Angeles before the deadline, but he is expected to be dealt to the Bulls or Heat.
