Purdue vs. Northwestern Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-12-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Super Bowl

The Northwestern Wildcats play host to the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday afternoon in a crucial Big Ten clash from Welsh-Ryan Arena. Purdue comes in still sitting atop nearly every metric and ranking, as they look to stay atop the Big Ten rankings. For Northwestern, they continue to live life on the bubble and are looking to improve its resume. The Boilermakers haven't lost in any of the last ten meetings between the two sides and are hoping they can continue their run of dominance in this one.

Purdue goes back on the road as they try to continue to control their spot atop the college basketball landscape. With a 23-2 record, the Boilermakers remain the top dog, even despite their loss the last time they hit the road. With a 6-1 record in true road games, Purdue certainly won't be daunted in this one, especially as the lone loss came in a rivalry setting that Northwestern will struggle to replicate in this one. Not to be forgotten is the dominance the Boilermakers have had in this series over the years. They haven't lost to Northwestern in any of the last ten games between the two and even as the Wildcats continue one of their more impressive seasons of late, confidence is likely to be a major factor in this one.

It's helped Purdue this season that they've been able to avoid the injury bug as well. With no injuries heading into Sunday afternoon, the Boilermakers should be able to show off the ir depth, just another advantage for them to add to their list.

The Boilermakers have been a force on the defensive end this season and that is bound to be the deciding factor in this one. They rank 15th nationally in scoring defense while being the top defensive rebounding team in the country as well. On the offensive end, they have yet to face a defense as efficient as Northwestern's but the size discrepancy is bound to lean in the Boilermakers' favor. Everything begins and ends with the likely National Player of the Year in Zach Edey (22.1 ppg, 13.2 rpg) and with his efficiency in the frontcourt, in addition to his offensive rebounding, points in the paint will be an advantage for Purdue. The backcourt does remain slightly inexperienced, though this doesn't seem like the matchup where that comes back to haunt this group.
