BYU still has NCAA Tournament aspirations as the regular season makes the final turn for home. The Cougars are now fifth the WCC, a conference that has seen a resurgence this season with teams other than just Gonzaga having strong seasons. The Cougars tourney chances took a hit on Thursday night, however, with a surprising 92-80 loss at Pepperdine. Fousseyni Traore led the Cougars with 19 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Gideon George chipped in with 13 points and three assists. BYU lost the battle on the boards, 32-28 and the Cougars had just nine assists in the game compared with 22 assists for Pepperdine.

BYU will need to feature its defense if it wants to upend the high-powered Zags. BYU has the second ranked scoring defense in the WCC this season. The Cougars are fourth in 3pt defense in the conference as well. BYU has struggled to protect the basketball, ranking 10th in the WCC in fewest turnovers per game. On the offensive end, BYU ranks eighth in the conference in scoring. Additionally, the Cougars are just 10th in the WCC in 3pt field goal percentage. The Cougars hit the glass hard, however, ranking second in rebounding.
