It is officially do or die time now for the West Virginia Mountaineers as the regular season nears a close. At 15-9, the Mountaineers are sitting on the bubble of an NCAA Tournament berth and will need a strong close both in the regular season and the Big 12 Tournament. West Virginia has won three of four games coming in and sit in eighth place in the Big 12. On Wednesday night at home, the Mountaineers picked up a huge tier 1 win by knocking off #11 Iowa State by the score of 76-71. Kedrian Johnson led the way with 22 points and Emmitt Matthews Jr. added 20 points in a huge win for WVU. Johnson's critical three-point field goal late clinched the win for the Mountaineers.

“He made huge shots for us, huge,” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said of Johnson.

West Virginia will likely rely on its offense for the rest of the season as they bid for a tourney berth. The Mountaineers are ranked third in the conference in scoring offense. In addition, they are second in three-point shooting percentage. WVU is middle of the pack in fewest turnovers, ranked sixth in the Big 12. Defensively, the Mountaineers are ranked 10th in scoring defense. They are also sixth in three-point defense. On the glass, West Virginia is ranked eighth in total rebounding.
