Fairfield will try to snap its three-game losing streak when it travels to Rider on Friday night. The Stags put together a four-game winning streak down the stretch last month, but they lost their third straight game in a 70-61 setback against Iona on Sunday. Rider is the hottest team in the MAAC, rattling off seven consecutive wins coming into this matchup.
Fairfield has been very streaky this season, which began with a four-game skid to open the campaign. The Stags went through a stretch of four wins in five games in December before losing three consecutive games to open the 2023 portion of their schedule. They bounced back with a four-game winning streak after that, but that streak was snapped in an overtime loss to Rider in their first matchup, which came on Jan. 29 as 2.5-point home favorites. Fairfield has followed that up with losses to Quinnipiac and Iona, falling one game below .500 in league play and to sixth place in the standings.

The Stags have been let down by their offense throughout the season, ranked outside the top 300 in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings. They are the worst 3-point shooting team in the nation as of Thursday afternoon, knocking down just 26.4% of their attempts from the perimeter. Fairfield has been able to salvage some of its offensive possessions with a low turnover rate and a decent offensive rebounding rate, sitting inside the top 160 in both categories. The Stags are facing a Rider defense that is No. 220 in adjusted efficiency. Junior forward Supreme Cook leads Fairfield with 13.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, while senior guard Caleb Fields is adding 11.5 points and 3.7 boards.
