UAB vs. North Texas Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-9-2023

We have a big Conference USA matchup between UAB (17-7 SU, 8-5 CUSA) and North Texas (19-5 SU, 10-3 CUSA) from Denton, Tx., on Thursday at 8pmET.

FAU leads the conference at 12-1, while North Texas is 10-3 and UAB is tied for third with MTSU at 8-5. These teams met on Jan. 21 with North Texas winning on the road 63-52.

UAB has won four straight after losing to Mid Tenn State in overtime on Jan. 16 and North Texas at home on Jan. 21. They beat No. 19 FAU 86-77 on Feb. 2 to halt their 20-game winning streak and defeated FIU 76-72 as a 15.5-point favorite on Saturday. The Blazers may have had a letdown after the FAU win as Trey Jemison led the way with 12 points and 11 rebounds. KJ Buffen added 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. UAB shot 48% from the field, but they were extremely sloppy as they turned the ball over 22 times, including eight from Jordan Walker.

The Blazers are like their nickname. They love to run and lead C-USA with 81.9 points per game, while allowing 76.8 points. They are about average in most shooting numbers, ranking seventh in the 11-team league in three-point shooting (34.6%) and fifth in defending the three (34.6%). They rank second in the league in rebounding margin at 5.5 per game.

Leading UAB in rebounding is Jemison, an old-school center at 6-11, 260, who began his career at Clemson. He's averaging 9.2 points and 8.4 rebounds with 1.8 blocks on 58.6% shooting. Walker leads the team with 22.7 points per game and 4.3 assists on 41.5% shooting (38.1% 3pt).
