The Vancouver Canucks face the New York Islanders with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the second half of the season. The Canucks have a 20-26-4 record and are near the bottom of the Pacific Division. The Islanders have a 27-22-5 record and with four wins in a row have leaped into the middle of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are looking to improve in their divisions and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Canucks are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.32 goals per game. Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, and Andrei Kuzmenko have combined for 61 goals and 87 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, and Dakota Joshua have combined for 26 goals and 42 assists while defenseman Quinn Hughes has added five goals and 40 assists from the point to help open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.94 goals per game. Quinn Hughes and Luke Schenn have combined for 4.4 defensive point shares and 122 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has been awful, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Collin Delia has struggled with a .893 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average on 317 shots with -4.1 goals saved above ave rage.
