The Calgary Flames face the Detroit Red Wings with both teams hoping to improve on rocky seasons. The Flames have a 24-17-10 record and are in the middle of the Pacific Division while the Red Wings have a 21-20-8 record and with consecutive losses have fallen to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Both teams are looking to improve in their divisions and make a push for the playoffs and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Flames are having a promising season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.14 goals per game including nine goals in the last two games. Nazem Kadri, Elias Lindholm, and Tyler Toffoli have scored 53 goals and 74 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Jonathan Huberdeau, Mikael Backlund, and Andrew Mangiapane have combined for 30 goals and 62 assists while defensemen Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin have added 11 goals and 45 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.02 goals per game with 12 goals in the last three games. Andersson and Hanifin have combined for 6.3 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and easily find open shots on the net. Additionally, goaltender Jacob Markstrom h as been awful with a .892 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average on 886 shots with -12.4 goals saved above average.
