Maryland vs. Michigan State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-7-2023

Maryland (16-7 SU, 16-7 ATS, 7-5 B10) takes on Michigan State (14-9 SU, 11-12 ATS, 6-6 B10) in a Big 10 battle from East Lansing on Tuesday night at 9pmET.

These teams met three times last season with MSU winning all three and covering twice.

Maryland is not ranked in the top 25, but what really matters is the NCAA Net Rankings, where they are at 28th. What they really can use is some quality road wins as they are 2-5 this season. They did get a win on Saturday night against a decimated Minnesota team 81-46. Julian Reese scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Jahmir Young added  14 points to give the Terps their first conference road win of the season. The Golden Gophers were playing without leading scorer and rebounder Dawson Garcia, due to a foot injury.

The Terps have won four straight since losing to Purdue 58-55 on the road as a 9-point underdog. They have played well over their last six games, winning five of those and covering all six. This is an undersized team that has very little depth, but they have played very good defense, allowing 63 or less points in all six of those games.

On the season, Maryland is shooting 44.8% from the field and holding teams to 41.2%. They really struggle with shooting the three-point shot (31%), though they did make 43% (9-of-21) of their 3-point attempts against Minnesota. They rank third in the Big 10 in three-point defense (30.1%), but just 13th in assist/turnover ratio. Turnovers are not a huge issue (11 per game), but they rank last (14th) in assists (11.13).

Young leads the Terps with 16 points per game and 3.1 assists on 42.7% shooting (28.6% 3pt). Donta Scott adds 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds on 40.2% shooting (30.4% 3pt).&#1 3;
