Marquette vs. Connecticut (UCONN) Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-7-2023

No. 10 Marquette will try to stay atop the Big East standings when it faces No. 21 UConn on Tuesday night. The Golden Eagles are riding a five-game winning streak following a 60-52 win over Butler on Saturday. UConn is coming off back-to-back road wins at DePaul and Georgetown, but it desperately needs a win over one of the top teams in the conference.

Marquette got off to a non-descript start to the season when it lost two of its first five games, losing to Purdue and Mississippi State, both of which were unranked at the time. The Golden Eagles have gone 16-3 in its 19 games since then, including a non-conference win over then-No. 6 Baylor in November. They have won 10 of their last 11 Big East games, and they are riding a five-game winning streak coming into this matchup. Marquette covered the spread in the first four wins before beating Butler by eight points as a 15-point favorite on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles have been a fantastic offensive team this season, ranked fourth in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings. They have the No. 2 effective field goal percentage (57.4) in college basketball and the top 2-point percentage (60.4). Marquette has a low turnover rate, but its only weakness has been its poor offensive rebounding rate. The Golden Eagles are facing a UConn defense that is No. 14 in field goal percentage. Sophomore guard Kam Jones leads Marquette with 15.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while junior forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper is adding 13.5 points and 4.6 boards. Guard Tyler Kolek is averaging a Big East-best 7.9 assists per game.
