Two of the A-10's top teams are going to cross paths again as the Dayton Flyers (15-9, 10-14-0 ATS, 7-4 A-10) are in Richmond to face the VCU Rams (18-6, 11-12-1 ATS, 9-2 A-10). When these schools met less than a month ago, VCU came out on top 63-62. The Rams have won five of the last six games against the Flyers, but the last game in Richmond was a 30-point Dayton victory. That was the largest margin of victory in the all-time series between the schools. This game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in Stuart C. Siegel Center.
Dayton has lost three of five, all against conference foes, making them 7-4 in the A-10 and 2.0 games behind VCU for the top spot. Despite the slump, they are ranked ahead of VCU by KenPom, with their placement at 72 leading the A-10 this season. Bracketology has them on the outside looking in for the NCAA tournament.
Their most recent game was a 68-59 loss to St. Bonaventure. As a team, they did not shoot well, only hitting 20.0% of their threes and 39.3% of their shots overall. Sophomore Daron Holmes II was an exception, hitting seven of his eight shots for a 21-point performance. Junior Toumani Camara also excelled on the glass, grabbing 17 boards. The Flyers trailed the entire second half of the game.
Dayton plays at one of the slowest paces in the nation, ranking 328th in adjusted tempo. So, their offense doesn't put up many points a night, only 69.3, but they are among the most efficie nt in the country. The Flyers shoot 47.0% as a team, first in the A-10 and 54th in the country this season.
Not to be outdone, their defense also leads the conference in opponent's field goal percentage, holding foes to 39.3% shooting which is 13th in the nation. They also limit opponents to 28.6% on threes, second in the A-10 and 11th nationwide. Combined with their tempo, it should come as no surprise they only allow 61.5 points per game, 16th in college basketball and leading the A-10.
