It’s a matchup of teams from the MAAC on the college hardwood in the Constitution State. The Fairfield Stags are on the road as they travel to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats Friday night. Fairfield fell 78-69 in overtime at home to Rider in their previous game Sunday afternoon, losing outright as a two-point favorite. Quinnipiac took down Marist 72-66 at home Tuesday night in their most recent game though they failed to cover the line as a 10-point favorite. In the all-time series between the programs, the Bobcats own a 12-7 edge and have claimed six of the last seven meetings. That includes a 69-60 road win in the most recent meeting between the teams on February 9, 2022.

Fairfield saw their four-game win streak come to an end as they were knocked off in overtime by Rider at home in their previous game Sunday afternoon. The Stags dropped to 10-11 overall and stand tied for fifth in the conference with a 6-5 record this season. Against Rider, Fairfield led by as many as 10 in the first half and held an eight-point edge at intermission. The Stags gave up a 15-6 run to start the second half, leaving them down one, and the teams battled back and forth down the stretch. Fairfield led by five with 31 seconds remaining in regulation only to see Rider tie the game at the buzzer to force overtime. That deflated the Stags, who were outscored 13-4 in the overtime to take the loss. Fairfield shot 41.1% from the field, including six of 24 from three-point range, and misfired on 10 of their 27 free throw attempts in the game. Supreme Cook led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Fairfield in the loss.

The Stags are 333rd in the nation in scoring offense as they average just 64.9 points per game in Jay Young’s fourth season as head coach. Fairfield pulls down an average of 34.8 boards per contest this season while dishing out only 9.7 assists per game. The Stags are 52nd in the nation in scoring defense by giving up 64.4 points per game on the year. Supreme Cook leads the team with 13.1 points plus 8.7 rebounds per contest on the year. Caleb Fields adds 12 points plus 3.6 rebounds a night while TJ Long adds 9.9 points a game. Allan Jeanne-Rose, Brycen Goodine, Jake Wojcik, Jalen Leach, James Johns Jr., Makai Willis, Chris Maidoh and Zach Crisler are important pieces for the Stags to have success. Fairfield shoots 40.4% from the field this season as a team. The Stags connect on 5.9 three-pointers a night while hitting 28.1% from beyond the arc. Fairfield is a mediocre team at the charity stripe, draining 71.2% of their attemp ts on the season.

Goodine played just four games before suffering a knee injury. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
