Elon vs. Stony Brook Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-2-2023

Elon (3-19 SU, 1-8 CAA) is coming off their first conference win of the season and will face Stony Brook (8-14 SU, 4-5 CAA) on Thursday night at 7pmET from Long Island, N.Y.

This will be the first meeting between these teams in the CAA since this is Stony Brook's first year in the conference.

The truth hurts. Elon has been a horrible basketball team this season. They had no wins against a Division I team before they finally beat Drexel at home 72-58 last Saturday. There were some signs that the Phoenix was about to break through considering they have covered four of five games and lost to Towson on Jan. 21 66-62 at home as a 10.5-point dog. Last Saturday, Sean Halloran scored 18 points and dished out five assists to lead the Phoenix over a pretty good Drexel team at home. Elon shot 56% from the field and 58% (7-of-12) from long range, while holding the Draongs to just 40% shooting (7-of-27 3pt).

Elon has had a lot of issues on both ends of the floor. They are shooting just 41.7% from the field to rank 10th in the CAA and rank 9th in field goal percentage defense (44.5%). They rank 12th in three-point shooting percentage (30.3%) and 6th in three-point defense (34%). They rank 10th in rebounding margin (-3.68) and 9th in turnover margin (-0.64).

Halloran leads the Phoenix with 13.3 points per game and 4.2 assists on 41.6% shooting (32.5% 3pt). Wing Zac Ervin adds 10.8 points on 34% shooting.
