SMU Mustangs (8-14) vs. Tulane Green Wave (13-7)

The 2022-23 college basketball betting action continues Wednesday, February 1, with the SMU Mustangs facing off against the Tulane Green Wave in the American Athletic Conference showdown at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, Louisiana.

These two schools meet for the second time in 2022-23, and Tulane beat SMU 97-88 as a 4.5-point road fave with a total of 149.0 points on January 11. The Green Wave are 8-point home favorites this time around, while the totals sit at 157.0 points.

The SMU Mustangs (8-14; 7-13-2 ATS; 3-6 conf.) are having a rough season. They’ve dropped six of their previous eight games overall. Last Sunday, the Mustangs outlasted South Florida 82-80 as 3-point home favorites to snap a two-game skid (a 71-69 defeat to Wichita State and a 99-84 loss at Memphis).

SMU nearly blew a 19-point lead against the Bulls. The Mustangs shot 50.9% from the field (10-for-23 from deep) but missed nine of their 23 free-throw attempts and allowed 13 offensive rebounds to South Florida. They also posted a nice 24/14 assist-to-turnover ratio, while sophomore guard Zhuric Phelps led the way with 17 points and seven assists. Senior guard Samuell Williamson posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, and senior forward Efe Odigie added 14 points.

The Mustangs are No. 212 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 180 in the KenPom rankings. They score just 102.5 points per 100 possessions (223rd in the nation) while allowing 103.1 points in return (141st). The Mustangs make only 6.5 triples per game (281st) on a 31.1 percentage clip (318th).
