In front of the largest campus crowd in school history, CMU battled back from 11 points down on Saturday to pull off a dramatic 70-69 on a Brian Taylor 3pt field goal with just six seconds to go in the game. The win improved the Chippewas to 3-5 in conference play, good for 8th in the MAC. Jesse Zarzuela led the way for CMU with 25 points as the team overcame a Western Michigan team that led for 39 of the game's 40 minutes before falling in the end.

“I'm a proud coach tonight, proud of the guys,” Central Michigan Head Coach Tony Barbee said. “We didn't play our best for 39 minutes and 48 seconds, but I thought we had poise and composure when it counted. With all the injuries we've had and the fact that we're playing without one of the best players in the MAC in Kevin Miller, and when you have that kind of youth with most of our team playing out of position, you have growing pains. It doesn't ha ppen overnight. This team is staying patient, the guys are learning and growing.

“Western Michigan controlled the game for 99 percent of the contest, but when it mattered, we executed and made the plays that got us over the top. I'm glad that our guys can feel the results of doing it the right way and having each other's backs. That's what happens with youth and immaturity. I'm happy our team got a much-deserved win tonight.”

CMU sits in eight in conference play and that position is reflected in the team's offensive numbers. The Chippewas are 12th in the MAC in scoring offense thus far. They are also 12th in 3pt shooting and 12th in field goal percentage. CMU is also a dismal 12th in the conference in turnovers per game. On the defensive end, CMU has faired much better. The Chippewas are 3rd in opponent's field goal percentage and second in 3pt field goal percentage. CMU has been aggressive on the boards, ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding including 2nd in offensive rebounding.
