Los Angeles will be hoping to bounce back from a devastating loss when it faces the Nets on Monday night. The Lakers had a late no-call go against them at the end of regulation on Saturday, and Boston wound up winning in overtime. Brooklyn bounced back from a rough stretch with a 122-115 win over New York on Saturday.
It looked like Los Angeles’ season might be defined by its 2-10 start to the season, as the Lakers were trending towards one of their worst campaigns in franchise history. They responded by winning eight of their next 10 games to get back on track. However, they lost nine of their next 13 games to continue their extremely inconsistent start to the season. The Lakers have been slightly more consistent since then, going 9-6 in their last 15 games. They are coming off a brutal loss, coming up short against Boston in overtime on Saturday. Star LeBron James appeared to be fouled on the final play of regulation, but the refs missed the call and Boston took advantage in the extra session.

James finished with 41 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, but his missed layup at the end of regulation was the defining moment. He is now just 116 points away from matching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record. Anthony Davis came off the bench for the second straight game after missing 20 games with a foot injury, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Russell Westbrook had a rough showing, missing his first six shots and finishing 4 of 14 from the floor. The Lakers have been one of the best offensive teams in the NBA this season, ranked fifth in scoring (117.1). They are currently in last place in the Pacific Division, but they are only two games back of a spot in the play-in tournament.
