Texas at Tennessee Prediction – Basketball Picks 1/28/23

The Texas Longhorns will head to Knoxville and face the Tennessee Volunteers in a battle of top ten-ranked teams in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge from the Thompson-Boling Arena on ESPN. Tennessee and Texas have faced off seven times, with head coach Rick Barnes coaching in five of those meetings, four of them with the Longhorns, and last year’s contest with the Vols. Texas leads the head-to-head series, 4-3, after a one-point victory in Austin last season.

Texas improved 17-3 after beating Oklahoma State in Austin. The Longhorns out scored the Cowboys in both halves, and picked up their largest win of conference play, 89-75. Texas is scoring 80.5 points per game, while allowing 66.8 ppg, and shooting 48.3% from the floor.

Texas climbed back in the top 10 of the AP Polls after victories over West Virginia and Oklahoma State, but they will face another stiff test here in Knoxville. Marcus Carr leads UT in scoring through 20 games at 17.6 after 21-point performances in their last two wins. Timmy Allen responded to a quiet outing versus WVU by scoring 17 points against the Cowboys, and he’s up to 10.7 ppg and a team-lead 5.3 rpg. Former Iowa State guard Tyrese Hunter averages 10.3 ppg after a 29-point outing versus KState.
