Towson vs. Elon Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-21-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Divisional Round

Towson (13-7 SU, 11-9 ATS, 5-2 CAA) will stay in North Carolina to face Elon (2-17 SU, 7-10 ATS, 0-6 CAA) on Saturday at 4pmET.

Last season, Towson swept both games and covered both.

All it really took was one big one and that came on Monday, on MLK Day with Towson beating Hofstra 68-47 at home. The Tigers had shown a lot of inconsistency and rarely had big wins. At 134 in KenPom, they aren't getting an at-large bid. Nobody in the CAA aside from Charleston (44th NCAA Net Rankings) has a shot to make the NCAA's unless they win the CAA Tournament. At 5-2 in the CAA, Towson is trying to position themselves to win the whole thing by getting a top four seed.

At times, Towson has looked like a top-4 seed and the preseason favorite. At other times, they've played poorly in non-conference play and in their last loss at Delaware (72-59) on Jan. 11. But on Jan. 19, they traveled to North Carolina to face the Aggies and took the game 79-67. Nygal Russell led the Tigers with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Nicolas Timberlake added 17 points and five boards.

Towson is a pretty average offensive team, putting up around 69 points per game on 44% shooting and over 34% from three-point range. But they make their way on defense and on the boards. They rank second in field goal defense (41.9%) and eighth in three-point defense (34%). They also rank second in rebounding margin (+5.2). Timberlake leads the team with 15.7 points per game on 43% shooting (33% 3pt), while Cam Holden adds 14.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
