The VCU Rams will make the cross-town trip to the Robins Center to face the Richmond Spiders in Atlantic 10 play. This will mark the 90th Capital City Classic matchup, and VCU leads the all-time series, 57-32, but Richmond did win the previous meeting at the Atlantic 10 Tournament last season.
VIrginia Commonwealth improved to 14-5 after beating UMass at the Sieg. The Rams took off on the Minutemen in the second half, and handed them a 28-point defeat. VCU is scoring 71.3 points per game, while allowing 64.2, and shooting 45.8% from the field.
VCU has cleaned things up since beginning the season 5-4, and they’ve won nine of their last ten games. The Rams 5-1 A10 record has them deadlocked with Dayton atop the conference standings, with a return to the Big Dance in sight. VCU is defending at a high level, and they’re led by third-year starter Adrian Baldwin Jr. The 6’1 guard went for a career-high 28 points in the win over Vanderbilt, and he’s averaging 11.9 ppg and a team-lead 6.1 apg. Brandon Johns Jr. scored 22 points against Duquesne, and he leads VCU in scoring (12.5), while grabbing 4.8 rpg.
