Detroit Red Wings vs. Vegas Golden Knights Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-19-2023

Detroit Red Wings (18-17-8) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (28-15-2)

The 2022-23 NHL season continues Thursday, January 19, with the cross-conference showdown between the Detroit Red Wings and Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the puck drop is set for 10:00 PM ET.

The Golden Knights search for their third straight victory over the Red Wings and open as -170 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.5 goals. Back in December, Vegas beat Detroit 4-1 as a -140 road fave, and the game went under a 6.5-goal line.

The Detroit Red Wings have dropped six of their last eight games overall including the previous three. After a 4-3 home loss to the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets, the Red Wings started a three-game road trip with a 6-3 defeat at the Colorado Avalanche this past Monday. On the very next day, Detroit lost at the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 in a shootout, failing to satisfy -130 moneyline odds.

The Red Wings blew a 3-1 third-period lead against the Yotes. They outshot Arizona 40-23, but it wasn’t enough. The Red Wings couldn’t find the back of the net in a shootout, while the Coyotes converted their first two attempts.

Magnus Hellberg yielded three goals on 23 shots last Tuesday and fell to 3-3-1 with a 2.70 GAA and .897 save percentage on the season. Ville Husso is expected to patrol the crease Thursday against the Golden Knights, and the 27-year-old netminder is 14-10-5 with a 3.10 GAA, .899 save percentage, and three shutouts in 2022-23.

The Red Wings are 22nd in the league in goals against (3.40 per game) and 20th in goals for (3.09). Dylan Larkin leads the way for Detroit with 15 goals and 25 assists in 42 appearances this season, and the 26-year-old center has accounted for seven points over his last five games (G2, A5).
