Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Wildcard Edition

Phoenix Suns (21-23) vs. Memphis Grizzlies (29-13)

The 2022-23 NBA season goes on with a nine-game Monday card and brings this Western Conference clash from FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee as the Phoenix Suns take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Memphis enters this contest on fire, winners of nine straight games after defeating Indiana on Saturday, 130-112. Phoenix has lost two straight after losing to Minnesota on Friday, 122-160. This is the third meeting between these teams this season with the road team winning both of the first two contests, including the Suns defeating the Grizzlies 125-108 on December 27.

The Phoenix Suns trailed by 17 entering the fourth quarter but were able to pull within a handful of points before falling 121-116. The loss dropped the club to 7-16 on the road, including going 1-6 in their last seven road contests. The Suns were on fire from three-point range, hitting 14 of 23 attempts, not surprising considering that they are third in field goal percentage (38.6%).

“I told the guys we’ve got to keep our spirit in a good place because when it all starts to come together, it can multiply,” Phoenix coach Monty Williams said. “We just got to keep plugging away.”

Deandre Ayton returned after missing two games and had 11 points and 11 rebounds. He was 5-18 shooting, however. Damion Lee came off the bench to score 31 points, hitting six of seven three-point attempts. Phoenix has allowed 120-plus points in each of the two losses and is 16th in points allowed per game at 111.6.

The Suns will be without both Chris Paul and Landry Shamet, who are both out.
