Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-15-2022

The Detroit Tigers, now with the 3rd worst record in baseball and in last place in the AL Central Division, will travel to Cleveland to take on the first-place Guardians on Monday night. The two teams are set to battle in a three-game series to start the week. On the mound in Monday afternoon's opener will be righty Drew Hutchison (1-6, 4.45) of the Tigers taking on fellow righty Aaron Civale (2-5, 6.05) of the Guardians. First pitch is schedule for 3:05pm EST.

The Tigers have sunk rapidly in the second half of the season and are now in last place in the AL Central Division and threatening to end with one of the bottom three records in baseball. The Tigers were rocked by more bad news this weekend as it was announced that the team's best starter, Tarik Skubal, would be shut down for the rest of the season with arm issues. The weekend wasn't much better from there as the Tigers were swept by the White Sox in three games and have now lost seven straight games and ten of their last 11. They now head to Cleveland to try and fend off the first-place Guardians.

After shutting down Skubal, the Tigers now have four starting pitchers on the IL heading into this series. One of their few available starter, Drew Hutchison, will take the hill in Monday's opener. Hutchison will be making his 10th start of the season and 20th appearance overall. He is 1-6 with a 4.45 ERA overall but 1-3 with a 4.40 ERA as a starter. In his nine starts, Hutchison has pitched 45 innings and allowed 49 hits. Hutchison will not blow anyone away with his stuff as he has 16 walks and just 23 strikeouts in his nine starts. In his last three starts, Hutchison is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA and has allowed 18 hits in 16 innings of work. He pitched well against Cleveland in his last start, lasting five innings and allowing eight hits and three runs in a 3-2 loss.
