Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-14-2022

The Philadelphia Phillies (63-49, 60-52 RL, 55-51-6 O/U) take on the New York Mets (73-40, 63-50 RL, 57-48-8 O/U) as the divisional foes conclude a three-game series on Sunday afternoon. The Phillies will have Zack Wheeler on the hill. The Mets will send out Chris Bassitt targeting his 10th win. The Mets lead the season series 10-4.

The Phillies will give Zack Wheeler the nod for the 22nd time of the season. Wheeler resumed his fine work last time out, limiting the Marlins to just one run in six innings, and was credited with the win to lift his record to 11-5. The veteran right-hander is an ace and has now conceded two or fewer runs in four consecutive performances. He enters with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP accompanied by an 11-5 record in 126.2 innings of action. Wheeler has contained the Mets this season, limiting them to four runs (two earned) in 10.2 innings pitched, and is 4-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 65.1 career innings.

The Phillies recently won seven games in a row and that streak has set the tone as they now have a good chance of qualifying for the postseason. Philly has also won four out of their last five road bouts entering Saturday’s action and stand in the 2nd Wi ldcard spot.

JT Realmuto is swinging a hot bat, accumulating nine RBIs and a .938 OPS this month. The 31-year-old catcher is having a productive season, bashing 13 big flies with 55 RBIs and a .778 OPS. Realmuto is 9 for 43 with five RBIs against the Mets this season.

The Phillies are posting an average of 4.70 runs, good for seventh overall. The pitching staff is carrying a 3.73 team ERA, positioning them eighth in the big leagues.
