Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-8-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas

With the NFL season returning to some semblance of normalcy, the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers will do battle in the final Sunday night game of the regular season in a game filled with playoff implications. The 8-8 Lions will need some help earlier in the day for this game to have significance. A Seahawks loss will make this game a win and in for the Lions. For Green Bay, also 8-8, the math is far simpler: a win and they are in the playoffs. The opening kick for this game is set for 8:20pm EST.

After losing six of their first seven games, the Lions looked to be the same old laughable Lions this season. Instead of packing things up, however, Dan Campbell's squad regrouped and have won seven of its last nine games to put the team in a position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The Lions have been led by an offense that has featured the resurgence of quarterback Jarod Goff, a two-headed monster at running back and a near no-name receiving group that has torn up the league. Last Sunday, the Lions closed out their home schedule with a 41-10 route over the Bears. Goff led the way with three touchdowns, including two to unheralded tight end Brock Wright. The running back duo of Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift were dominant, with Williams running for 144 yards and a touchdown and Swift adding 78 yards and a score. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the receiving group with four catches for 62 yards.

& #x201C;It’s where we want to be, playing in the last game of the season that means something,” said Goff, who was 21 of 29 for 255 yards and did not throw an interception for an eighth consecutive game.

The Lions will need to deliver in the harsh conditions of Green Bay on Sunday but have a good combination of running and passing that could get the job done. Detroit is ranked fifth in scoring offense in the NFL this season. They have the 11th ranked rushing offense in the NFL and the eighth ranked passing offense. The Lions have been outstanding in the red zone, ranked fourth in the league. The Lions have protected the ball well this season, ranking sixth in the league in turnover differential. On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions are ranked 29th in scoring defense. They are also ranked 29th against the run and 30th against the pass. However, the Lions have allowed an average of just 189 yards per game passing in the last three games. Defensively in the red zone, the Lions are ranked 27th.

Key Injuries: C Frank Ragnow is listed as questionable but I would expect him to go on Sunday night while the Lions may get back CB Chase Lewis (h amstring) from injured reserve.
