On Sunday, Maryland was blasted by Michigan 81-46 as a 1-point road dog and on Dec. 14, was annihilated at home 87-60. They beat Saint Peter's (74-45) and UMBC (80-64) at home in between those games, but first-year head coach Kevin Willard has to be concerned about the state of his team right now. To lose big to UCLA (No. 5 Net Rankings) is one thing, but then to not even compete against a Michigan team (81 Net Rankings), that just lost to Central Michigan at home is a major problem. The Terps shot 26% from the field and 20% (5-of-25) from beyond the arc and were outrebounded by 14. They were down 19-1 to start the game and never recovered.

“This is a total failure by me to try to get I think somewhat ready,” Willard said following the game on Testudo Times. “Just disappointing coming out, you’re back into league play, and we come out that way.”

Maryland is 47th in the Net Rankings because they had three wins against Illinois, Miami and Saint Louis. The Terps are shooting 45% from the field, but just 30.8% (311th) from beyond the arc. They are allowing 63.2 points per game on 39.7% shooting and 28.2% (20th) from three-point range. Guard Jahmir Young (Charlotte transfer) leads the Terps with 14 points per game on 41.7% shooting (28.8% 3pt).
