DePaul Blue Demons (7-8) vs. Butler Bulldogs (9-6)

The 2022-23 college basketball season goes on Wednesday, January 4, with the DePaul Blue Demons facing off against the Butler Bulldogs in the Big East Conference showdown at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

The tip-off is set for 9:00 PM ET. The Bulldogs open as 10-point favorites with a total of 140.5 points. They’ve dominated the Blue Demons over the last nine years, winning 16 of their previous 17 encounters.   

The DePaul Blue Demons (7-8; 7-8 ATS) are coming off a 74-59 home loss to Providence on New Year’s Day. They fell to 1-3 in the conference play, trailing the Friars for all 40 minutes and by as many as 25 points. The Blue Demons shot only 35.1% from the field and 4-for-19 from beyond the arc while posting 19 turnovers. 

Junior forward Da’Sean Nelson had a good game last Sunday, accounting for 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a couple of steals. Senior F Javan Johnson went 5-for-17 from the field, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds on the night, while senior guard Umoja Gibson had ten points on 1-for-6 shooting from the field and 8-for-9 from the foul line. 

The Blue Demons have gone 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS over their last five contests overall. That lone victory came against Georgetown 83-76 at home on December 29. DePaul is now No. 195 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 144 in the KenPom rankings. The Blue Demons tally 103.8 points per 100 possessions (136th in the country) and allow 101.7 points in return (156th).
