Atlanta Hawks (17-19) vs. Golden State Warriors (19-18)

The 2022-23 NBA season continues Monday, January 2, with the Atlanta Hawks taking on the Golden State Warriors in the cross-conference showdown at Chase Center in San Francisco, California, and the tip-off is set for 10:00 PM ET.

Atlanta and Golden State lock horns for the first time this season. While the Hawks have listed Clint Capela (calf) and De’Andre Hunter (ankle) as questionable to play, the Warriors will miss Stephen Curry (shoulder) and Andre Iguodala (hip).

The Atlanta Hawks (17-19; 14-21-1 ATS) start a four-game road trip Monday, hoping to snap a three-game skid. After a heavy 129-114 defeat at the Indiana Pacers, the Hawks have lost two straight contests at home to the Brooklyn Nets 108-107 and Los Angeles Lakers 130-121. Last Friday, the Hawks couldn’t cope with LeBron James, who had 47 points, and Atlanta’s interior defense was awful in Clint Capela’s absence.

Atlanta yielded a thumping 74 points in the paint to the Lakers. The Hawks made 47.5% of their field goals and just 11 of their 38 attempts from beyond the 3-point line. Trae Young led the way for Atlanta with 29 points and eight assists, while Dejounte Murray had 20 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.

“Most of the time LeBron was in the back quarterbacking and telling everyone where to go,” Young said. “He was in the back of the paint hanging off our 5s and our 4s and making us shoot 3s and take contested jump shots. It was working early on and as the game went on it kind of turned on us. That’s what happened.”

The Hawks have struggled a lot over the last few weeks. They are only 4-9 SU and ATS in the last 13 games overall. Atlanta ranks 21st in the NBA in adjusted offensive efficiency (112.5 points per 100 possessions) and 12th in adjusted defensive efficiency (113.4). The Hawks make just 53.3% of their 2-pointers (22nd) and 33.3% of their 3-pointers (27th).
