Miami Heat (19-18) vs. Los Angeles Clippers (21-17)

The NBA betting action goes on Monday, January 2, with a huge 11-game card, so we are breaking down the cross-conference showdown between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

The tip-off is set for 10:30 PM ET. The Heat are without Omer Yurtseven (ankle) and Dewayne Dedmon (medical protocols), while Caleb Martin (quadriceps) and Nikola Jovic (back) are questionable to play. On the other side, the Clippers might miss Nicolas Batum (ankle).

The Miami Heat (19-18; 13-22-2 ATS) returned to winning ways on New Year’s Eve. Coming off a 124-119 defeat at the Denver Nuggets, the Heat outlasted the Utah Jazz 126-123 as 4.5-point road dogs on the second night of a back-to-back. Jimmy Butler (knee injury management) didn’t suit up, so Bam Adebayo led the Heat with 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and a plus-6 net rating.

It was a tight battle in Salt Lake City, and neither team led by more than ten points. Miami shot 50.6% from the field (13-for-39 from deep) and posted an excellent 32/12 assist-to-turnover ratio, but the Heat also allowed 16 offensive rebounds and 17 triples. Still, Miami had the last laugh, as Tyler Herro made the winning 3-pointer as time expired, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and five turnovers.

“That’s what we need,” Adebayo said. “That’s what makes us a better team, when everybody is involved and flying around and making shots. The ball’s not sticking.”

Tyler Herro has been outstanding lately, averaging 23.9 points on 40.2% shooting from deep to go with 5.0 boards and 5.4 assists through his last ten games. Miami is 7-3 SU in its previous ten contests and has covered in three of its last four outings at any location. The Heat own the eighth-best defensive rating in the league (111.8 points per 100 possessions), but they allow 13.7 threes (tied-29th in the NBA) on a 36.9 percentage clip (28th).
