West Virginia Mountaineers (10-2) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (11-1)

The West Virginia Mountaineers head to Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas, on New Year’s Eve to take on the Kansas State Wildcats. They start the Big 12 Conference play, and the tip-off is set for 7:00 PM ET. 

The Mountaineers search for their second straight victory over the Wildcats. The visitors open as slight 1.5-point underdogs, while the totals sit at 143.5 points.   

The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-2; 7-5 ATS) are coming off a 75-64 home victory against Stony Brook on December 22. It was their fourth win in a row, but the Mountaineers failed to cover a massive 26.5-point spread. They led by as many as 19 points, finishing with 41.8% shooting from the field (11-for-26 from deep) and 85.7% from the foul line (18-for-21). 

Senior guard Kedrian Johnson dropped 18 points on Stony Brook, while fellow senior G Erik Stevenson posted a line of 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists. The Mountaineers missed senior forward Emmitt Matthews (10.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG) due to a knee injury, and he’s questionable to play Saturday against Kansas State. 

West Virginia enters the conference play as a No. 24 in the AP Top 25 Poll. The Mountaineers are No. 11 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 21 in the KenPom rankings. West Virginia leans on its prolific offense, notching 112.8 points per 100 possessions (22nd in the nation) on 55.0% shooting from inside the arc (61st) and 38.3% from beyond the arc (29th). Also, the Mountaineers rank 43rd in free-throw attempts per game (21.8) and 86th in assists per game (15.1).
