Former Jet, and current Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith and his Seattle Seahawks host the New York Jets on New Year's Day in an important game for both teams. Both teams come in with records of 7-8 and are fighting for their playoff lives. The last time these two teams played was in 2020 when the Seahawks destroyed the Jets 40-3. The Jets are favored by 2 in this one. Kickoff is on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. EST at Lumen Field in Seattle.
Well, it may be time to add Zach Wilson to the growing pile of quarterback busts for the New York Jets. Wilson was atrocious in his last start, a 19-3 loss to Jacksonville on Thursday Dec. 22. The former No. 2 pick in the draft was 9 for 18 for 92 yards and a pick with a quarterback rating of 41.9. He was so bad, he was benched in favor of Chris Streveler, who had been the fourth quarterback on the roster. Streveler was 10 of 15 for 90 yards and he rushed for a team high 54 yards. After the debacle, the Jets deactivated Wilson, meaning they don't even want him as a backup if Sunday's starter, Mike White, gets injured. The Zach Wilson era just might be over in New York.

The Jets have a terrible history with quarterback draft picks. the guy they are facing Sunday, Geno Smith, was one that was a bust in New York, but now look at him — a pro Bowler in Seattle. Sam Darnold was another — and now he has won the starting quarterback job in Carolina and has them playing well with a shot to make the playoffs. So their may yet be a second act for Wilson, but probably not with the Jets. The man of the moment in New York is Mike White, who is slated to start Sunday against the Seahawks after missing a few weeks with a rib injury. The Jets have the 25th ranked offense but the 4th ranked defense in the NFL.
