Portland Trail Blazers (18-16) vs. Golden State Warriors (18-18)

The 2022-23 NBA season goes on with a nine-game Friday slate, and we are taking a closer look at the Western Conference showdown between the Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors at Chace Center in San Francisco, California.

Portland and Golden State lock horns for the first time this season, and the Warriors aim for their fourth straight victory over the Trail Blazers. Golden State misses Stephen Curry (shoulder) and Andre Iguodala (hip), while Andrew Wiggins (groin, illness) is questionable to play. On the other side, Portland cannot count on Justise Winslow (ankle) and Nassir Little (hip).

The Portland Trail Blazers moved to 18-16 SU and 21-13 ATS on the season following Monday’s 124-113 victory to the Charlotte Hornets. The Blazers covered a 5.5-point spread in front of the home audience and snapped a three-game skid. During that stretch, Portland has lost at Oklahoma City twice, 123-121 and 101-98, and Denver 120-107.

The Trail Blazers made 50.0% of their field goals against Charlotte. They went 14-for-38 from beyond the arc and scored 25 fast-break points while posting a 28/15 assist-to-turnover ratio. Jerami Grant notched 32 points, ten rebounds, five assists, and a couple of blocks, and Jusuf Nurkic posted a strong line of 28 points, 15 rebounds, six dishes, and three blocks.

“He had 20-10 in the second half,” Blazers coach Chauncey Billu ps said of Nurkic. “It was impressive. Obviously, he had the 3-ball going, but he got every rebound in his area. Defensively he was good. He had a night.”

The Trail Blazers held the Hornets to 46 second-half points. They’ll need more of that in future days, as Portland ranks 22nd in the league in adjusted defensive efficiency (114.4 points allowed per 100 possessions). The Blazers score 114.8 points per 100 possessions (10th in the NBA) on 53.8% shooting from inside the arc (tied-16th) and 38.5% from downtown (3rd).
