Georgia Southern Eagles (6-6) vs. Buffalo Bulls (6-6)

The 2022 bowl season goes on Tuesday, December 27, with the Georgia Southern Eagles taking on the Buffalo Bulls in the Camellia Bowl at Crampon Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama, and the kick-off is set for noon ET.

Georgia Southern and Buffalo have never met before. The Eagles opened as 2.5-point favorites with a total of 63.5 points. By the time of writing, that went up to Georgia Southern -3.5 with a total of 66.5 points.

The Georgia Southern Eagles (6-6; 7-5 ATS) sneaked into the postseason, reaching .500 with a 51-48 double-overtime victory over Appalachian State in Week 13. The Mountaineers outgained the Eagles 629-487 in total yards and won the turnover battle 2-0, but Georgia Southern found a way to escape with a huge victory.

The Eagles snapped a three-game skid in their final appearance of the 2022 regular season. During that stretch, Georgia Southern lost to South Alabama 38-31, Louisiana 36-17, and Marshall 23-10. The Eagles went 2-2 in October and 3-1 in September. They finished the regular season 30th in the nation in points scored (33.7 per game) and 112th in points allowed (32.3).

After spending five years with the Buffalo Bulls, senior QB Kyle Vantrease led the way for Georgia Southern in 2022. He tossed for 3,895 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions while completing 61.3 percent of his passing attempts. Vantrease threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns in that wild game against Appalachian State and had 578 yards and four TD passes in a 45-38 victory over then-No. 25 James Madison in Week 7.

Junior RB Jalen White enjoyed a breakthrough season, racking up 1,132 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Senior wideouts Khaleb Hood and Jeremy Singleton combined for 1,602 yards and five touchdowns, while sophomore WR Derwin Burgess Jr. and senior WR Amare Jones scored six touchdowns apiece.

After a disappointing 2021 campaign, Georgia Southern returned to the bowl season in its first year under head coach Clay Helton. The Eagles are 3-1 in their previous four bowl games. Back in 2020, they trounced Louisiana Tech 38-3 in the New Orleans Bowl.
