Southern Miss Golden Eagles (11-1) vs. UNLV Rebels (10-1)

The 2022-23 NCAA men’s basketball season goes on Thursday, December 22, and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles head to Las Vegas, Nevada, to square off against the UNLV Rebels in the non-conference clash at Thomas & Mack Center.  

Southern Miss and UNLV lock horns for the first time ever. The Rebels open as 7-point home favorites, while the totals sit at 143.0 points.

After stopping their eight-game winning streak with an 84-82 defeat at Northwestern State on December 4, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (11-1; 8-1 ATS) have won three games in a row. Over the last two weeks, the Golden Eagles have defeated Lamar twice, 95-59 and 91-65, and McNeese 86-67. 

Last Sunday, the Golden Eagles dominated the Cowboys wire-to-wire, covering a 14.5-point spread on the home court. They held McNeese to 38.3% shooting from the field while making 45.5% of their field goals and 14 of their 32 attempts from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles handed out 22 assists and posted 13 offensive rebounds, while five players scored points in double figures. Senior forward Felipe Haase had 19 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field (4-for-8 from deep), and fellow senior F DeAndre Pinckney added 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. 

Southern Miss is No. 23 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 136 in the KenPom rankings. The Golden Eagles score 102.1 points per 100 possessions (175th in the nation) and allow 99.7 in a return (123rd). They shoot 56.1% from inside the arc (43rd) and 34.5% from beyond the 3-point line (150th) while handing out 16.3 assists per game (44th). Southern Miss tallies 9.9 steals per contest (20th), and according to Bart Torvik, the Golden Eagles’ defense ranks 34th in the country in turnover percentage (23.1%).
