San Francisco Dons (8-3) vs. UNLV Rebels (10-0)

The 2022-23 college hoops season continues Saturday, December 17, and the San Francisco Dons take on the UNLV Rebels in the non-conference showdown at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the tip-off at 5:00 PM ET.   

The Dons meet the Rebels for the second straight year, and UNLV opens as a 6.5-point home fave. Last season, San Francisco trounced UNLV 83-62 as a 10-point home favorite with a total of 134.0 points.

After starting the season on a six-game winning streak, the San Francisco Dons (8-3; 4-6 ATS) have gone 2-3 SU and ATS over their last five outings. During that five-game stretch, the Dons have routed Little Rock 90-68 and Merrimack 69-51 while losing against Davidson 89-80, Utah State 82-64, and New Mexico 67-64. 

Last Monday, the Dons met the Lobos at the neutral site in Las Vegas and suffered a heartbreaking defeat as 4-point underdogs. The Dons had a five-point lead with three minutes remaining in the second half and failed to score a basket for the rest of the game. It was a proper defensive battle, and San Francisco made 38.3% of its field goals and nine of its 29 shots from beyond the 3-point line. Senior guard Khalil Shabazz led the Dons with 18 points, nine rebo unds, and five assists, while fellow senior G Tyrell Roberts had 13 points, six boards, and four dimes. 

Khalil Shabazz has been San Francisco’s best player this season, tallying 14.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. The Dons are No. 103 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 102 in the KenPom rankings. They score 104.5 points per 100 possessions (121st in the country) and yield 98.4 points in a return (95th). The Dons make 9.2 3-point attempts per contest (47th) on a 31.9 percentage clip (275th).
