The Alabama Crimson Tide will meet the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Birmingham for the C.M. Newton Classic this weekend from the Legacy Arena on CBS. Gonzaga and Alabama met for the first time last season in Seattle, where the Tide would walk away with a nine-point win.
Gonzaga moved to 8-3 after defeating Northern Illinois on Monday night. The Bulldogs used a big second half to pull away from the Huskies, and picked up their third 20-point victory of the season. Gonzaga scores 80.6 points per game, while allowing 72.2 ppg, and shooting 49.2% from the floor.
Drew Timme remains the focal point of the Gonzaga program. The veteran big posted season-highs of 29 points and 17 boards in the win over Kent State, and he’s scored 22 or more in four of his last six games. Timme leads the Zags in scoring (18.6), while grabbing 7.9 rpg. Fellow senior Anton Watson joins him up front, and he posted double-doubles against Baylor and Kentucky. Julian Strawther double-doubled in the win over Washington and he’s averaging 13.2 ppg and a team-lead 8.7 rpg.
