New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 12-18-2022

NFL Show

The Washington Commanders play host to the New York Giants on Sunday night in a crucial NFC North showdown from FedExField. These two met just a few weeks ago, playing it out to a tie after a contest full of drama. The Giants only have one win in their last six games, which is cause for concern in itself. For Washington, they've only dropped one of their last eight games, which shows how these two teams are going in opposite directions. This has been one of the best rivalries in football over the last few years and there's no doubt that fans will want to tune in for the rematch.

It wasn't long ago that some thought the Giants could compete with the Eagles and Cowboys atop the NFC East when things were all said and done. Over the last few months though, the wheels have seemed to fall off for the Giants, serving to cast serious doubt over their playoff outlook. The Giants haven't won a game since back on November 22nd, and with two of their next three games coming against the top two teams in the NFC, it doesn't appear that things will get much easier for this group. Last week, the Giants lost by 26 points to the Eagles, and with only one win on the season so far against teams projected to be in the playoffs, concerns are mounting. If the season ended today, the Giants would be the last team in the NFC to sneak in, though with a handful of teams right on their tail, getting back on the winning path is key.

Battling injuries haven't helped this group over the last few weeks, espe cially on the defensive side of things. For the offense, Saquan Barkley (neck) is at least probable to give it a go, which is a must to compete in this one. Defensively, Adoree Jackson (knee) is questionable, while a pair of linebackers are questionable, atop Elerson Smith (Achilles) having already been ruled out.

The key in this one will be the Giants on the ground, on both sides of the ball. With the sixth-ranked rushing offense in the league, this group has the talent to turn some heads and with Barkley getting healthier and healthier, that remains good news. Unfortunately, though, Washington is one of the best run-stopping groups in the NFC and has a decent run game. With a defense sitting near the bottom of the league, the Giants will need to find creative ways to get off the field and control the possession game. Julian Love (107 tackles) has been all over the field for this group and if that can continue into Sunday, the defense can hold their own.
