Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland face off Saturday in a middleweight showdown for the main event of UFC Vegas 66 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. These two were originally supposed to fight back in October but the fight was postponed.
Jared Cannonier comes into this fight with a 15-6 record, but he is coming off a loss in the last fight. Cannonier fought for the belt against Israel Adesanya and it was a unanimous decision loss. He was outstruck 116-90. Two fights ago against Derek Brunson in February it was late in the second round that he finished the fight with elbows. On the other side of this matchup is Sean Strickland who sits with a 25-4 record overall and he has won six of his last seven fights. The only loss during that stretch came in his last fight against Alex Pereira. He was outstruck 25-15 and midway through the first round he was finished by knockout. He is averaging 5.54 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.01 significant strikes per minute. He is also averaging 1.14 takedowns every 15 minutes and is successful on 61 percent of his takedown attempts. He also stops 85 percent of his opponent's takedown attempts.
