A pair of major market teams from the Eastern Conference take the floor looking for a victory in the Windy City. The New York Knicks are on the road as they make the trip to face the Chicago Bulls Friday night to close a two-game series between the teams. In the first meeting between the teams on Wednesday night at the United Center, New York clawed out a 128-120 overtime victory to win outright as a 3.5-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Bulls own a 126-114 advantage though the Knicks have taken two straight matchups following Wednesday’s triumph. Can New York make it three straight or will Chicago defend their home floor and put one in the win column here?

New York nearly let the game against the Bulls slip away Wednesday but managed to regroup in overtime to keep their win streak alive. The Knicks entered Thursday 15-13 on the year and stood fourth in the Atlantic Division, 6.5 games behind the Celtics for the top spot. Against Chicago, New York led by 10 just over four minutes into the game, by one after the opening quarter and by nine at the half before seeing Chicago rally. The Knicks were up four after three quarters only to wind up in overtime. New York was even with 3:51 to play in overtime before reeling off nine straight points to secure the victory. The Knicks shot 49.5% from the floor, including 18 of 34 from three-point range, and controlled the glass by a 48-31 margin. Julius Randle poured in 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to lead New York in the victory.

For the year, the Knicks are 12th in the league in scoring offe nse with 114.3 points per contest entering this game. New York is 3rd in the league in rebounding as they collect 47.4 rebounds per game while they are 23rd in the league in assists by dishing out 23.5 dimes per contest. The Knicks are 14th in the league in scoring defense by allowing 113.2 points per contest. Julius Randle leads the team with 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest. Jalen Brunson (20.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists), RJ Barrett (19 points, 5.6 rebounds), Evan Fournier and Cam Reddish (8.4 points) each are solid secondary options as well. Isaiah Hartenstein, Obi Toppin, Mitchell Robinson, Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley (10 points, 4.3 rebounds) are key reserves for coach Tom Thibodeau. New York is 25th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 45.4% from the floor as a team. The Knicks are 22nd in the league in threes per game as they knock down 11.1 triples a night while they ar e 26th in three-point shooting by hitting 32.6% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Ryan Arcidiacono (ankle) has been out since November 20 and has no current timetable to return to action. Toppin (knee) was injured on December 7 against Atlanta and is expected to be reevaluated in two or three weeks, putting his earliest return as late December.
