Top MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks & Odds for Wednesday, August 10 (2022)

We keep breaking even as we racked up another 1-1 record last night. However, we’re bound to sweep the board, and today, we’ll get an early start with our first pick taking place in the afternoon. So, with only hours to first pitch, let’s not waste any more time and dive into the top NRFI plays of the day.

We’ll kick things off with an afternoon matchup as Brandon Woodruff is set to face off against Jeffrey Springs. Woodruff has been phenomenal since mid-May as he’s not allowed more than three runs in 11 straight starts. He’s also been excellent in the first inning as he has a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 16 starts. Woodruff has also struck out 28 percent of the batters he faced in the first inning. He should be the perfect guy to silence a Rays offense that ranks eighth in first-inning runs per game.

As for the bottom half of the inning, Jeffery Springs will be tasked with putting up a zero against a Brewers lineup that will have a significant splits edge. However, there’s no indication that will impact him as he’s been much better against righties than lefties this season. He will likely face one lefty in Christian Yelich, but regardless of how the top of the order is configured, I like Springs chances here. In 14 starts, he has a 2.57 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in the first inning. Just like his counterpart, he’s well armed against another lineup that gets off to fast starts.
