The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks face off on Thursday Night in an NFL showdown at Lumen Field. This is a huge game that could go a long way in deciding what teams make the playoffs. When these two teams faced off in September it was the 49ers that secured the 27-7 victory.
The 49ers come into this game with a 9-4 record and they have gone 8-5 against the spread. The 49ers have lost two of their starting quarterbacks this season but they haven’t missed a beat. Under center for the 49ers is Brock Purdy, and he’s coming off quite the start. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Purdy completed 16 of his 21 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers put up 35 points including 21 points in the second quarter. The 49ers are averaging 24.4 points while their defense is giving up 15.2 points per game. Christian McCaffrey has also had a strong season since being traded. Against the Bucs in the last game he rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of this matchup is the Seahawks who sit with a 7-6 record and they have gone 6-7 against the spread. After a fast start to the season the Seahawks have struggled, and coming into this game they have lost three of their last four games. In the last game against the Carolina Panthers, the defense gave up 30 points, and that led to the six point defeat. Geno Smith completed 21 of his 36 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. The Seahawks are averaging 26.3 points while their defense is giving up 25.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 6th, while the defense is ranked 30th. The defense needs to be better, but Geno Smith also needs to clean up the turnovers. Kenneth Walker is dealing with an ankle injury and it’s unclear if he’s going to be able to go in this game.
